Why is the Hindi film industry called Bollywood?
‘Bollywood’ whenever we hear the word we know it’s
refers to Hindi cinema industry based in Mumbai. We also know that Mumbai’s
former name was Bombay.
Before, Bombay was the center of the Hindi film
industry. So, ‘B’ is coming from Bombay and other part ‘Bollywood’ words are
inspired from USA's film industry 'Hollywood'. Bollywood's informal name is
Hindi language film industry in Mumbai.
In 1970, Film journalist Bevinda Collaco claimed that
she used this word very 1st time for the title of her column in the Screenmagazine. There is a doubt that it was directly inspired by Hollywood or
through Tollywood to Bollywood.
It’s true, all Bollywood movies are from India. But
all Indian movies are not from Bollywood. Because in India there are several
other language film industries. Kolkata Tollygunge-based cinema industry is
known as Tollywood and Chennai, Tamil Nadu based cinema industry is called Kollywood. In this way India has many region based cinema industries.
However, Bollywood is the most popular film industry
in India. This film industry has a remarkable history. Now a days, Bollywood
movies and songs are being more popular and well-represented to not only Indian
movie going audiences but also world’s audiences. Bollywood is also known asIndian national cinema industry because of its tremendous popularity.
