Salim Javed the first star scriptwriters in Bollywood
Starting in the 1970s, Bollywood had no concept of given credits
to the writers of screenplay, story and dialogues. Even there have no record to
having the same writers for the screenplay and story. Actor and director RajeshKhanna was the first person who was gave Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar the first
chance to become the screenplay writers in the movie Haathi Mere Saathi.
After that, they never looked back. During 1971 to 1987, they
worked together almost in 24 films out of which 20 were commercially and
critically successful. Their films Sholay (1975), Seeta Aur Geeta (1972),
Zanjeer (1973), Deewaar (1975), Kranti (1981) and Don also listed in highest-grossing
films in Indian cinema of all time. Even sholay (1975) was considered to be the
greatest Hindi cinema of all time.
During their together working time, they were nominated for ten
times and won six Filmfare Awards. As screenwriters they worked 22 Bollywood
films and 2 Kannada films.
At that time, Salim Khan was mostly working with the stories
and Javed Akhter was writing the films dialogues. Many dialogues from their
films became famous. In 1982, they decided to work separately. After that, Zamana
(1985) and Mr. India (1987) those two films released which were written by Salim–Javed.
After the spilt, Salim Khan not involved in so many film
projects. He wrote about 10 scripts in films. Including his son’s Salman Khan’s
acting films.
On the other hand, Javed Akhter started to working with his children’s
producing films Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar's with Excel Entertainment. In the
movie Silsila in 1981, Javed Akhter was started his lyrics writing career. After
that, he wrote over 80 film’s lyrics and 20 films scripts still now.
I think, Salim–Javed spilt was a great loss for Hindi film
industry.
I personally liked Javed Akhter’s writing very much. I don’t
good in Hindi and Urdu language, but read his many poems and writing. I respect
his thoughts and values which I learned from his poems. From his poems my most favorite
is-
“Dilon
mein tum apni
Betaabiyan
leke chal rahe ho,
Toh zinda ho tum
Nazar mein Khwabon ki
Bijliyaan leke chal rahe ho,
Toh zinga ho tum.”
