SHERSHAAH a true tale of Captain Vikram Batra (PVC)
Today is 12th
August 2021, Shershaah announced to release on Amazon Prime Video on the
celebration of independent’s day.
This is an
Indian biography war film directed by Vishnuvardhan and co-produced by Karan
Johar’s Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment.
Shershaah is
the story of bravery, love and sacrifices. Which was inspired by the life of
Captain Vikram Batra (PVC). Captain Vikram has awarded with Param Vir Chakra
(India's highest military award) for his invaluably sacrifices in the Kargil
War of 1999.
‘Shershaah’ was
the army codename of Captain Vikram. Basically, this film has portrayed the
valiant spirit and honors of his invaluable sacrifices.
Shabbir
Boxwala, Kaash Entertainment, Founder & Producer said that, “the story of
Captain Vikram Batra's (PVC) bravery and valour will reach the worldwide
audience it deserves.”
Shershaah was
starred with Sidharth Malhotra as Captain Vikram Batra opposite Kiara Advani
played his fiancée Dimple Cheema roles. For the first time, they paired
on-screen.
Other actors
were Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himmanshu, Ashok Malhotra,
Nikitin Dheer, Ankita Goraya, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar and
Pawan Chopra played the supporting roles.
In the movie,
Sidharth was played double role along with Vikram Batra and his twin brother
Vishal Batra’s roles. For performing the Captain Vikram’s character in the film
he also took six-month military training in Mumbai and Kargil. Then, he joined
shooting in Kargil at a height of 2,000 feet.
In an interviewSidharth Malhotra, who plays Vikram Batra, said the story is "close to my
heart." Talking about the experience of working on the film, he said,
"It was an honour to live the life of this brave heart and re-create his
journey."
In a BTS video
shared on Instagram, Kiara Advani who plays Vikram’s fiancee Dimple Cheema
role, said "I believe that Captain Vikram Batra's parents were very keen
for Sid to play their son because of a certain sense of similarity. They kept
looking at Sid and saying, 'You remind us so much of our son.'"
Captain Vikram
Batra’s family also have been a big supporting part of the film’s making. Actor
Sidharth Malhotra met the family members and comrades several times for
understanding Vikrant characteristic’s.
In an interviewwith Bollywood Hungama, Captain twin brother Vishal Batra shared his pain.
"I have to say it is not easy watching his story being recreated. Not a
day has passed since his going away 22 years when we in our family don’t
remember him. To talk about him is still very very painful. The pain cannot be
described. Reliving the memory of his loss every day is not easy,"
Though,
producer Karan Johar was confirmed the film in 2018. But, filming has been
started since May 2019 and wrapped up in January 2020. Principal photographer
shoots in several locations where Captain Vikram once really stayed including
Chandigarh, Palampur, Kargil-Ladakh and Kashmir.
Even, Shershaah
trailer was launched in Dras, Kargil where the 1999 war happened. This
launching ceremony had also a part of the ‘22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas’ celebration
to mark of India’s victory in the Kargil war against Pakistan.
Initially, this
films theatrical release date was announced on 3 July 2020. Due to Covid-19
pandemic lockdown in India cinema halls forced to shut down and postponed the
film release.
After waiting
for almost one year, finally the film was announced to streamed on Amazon Prime
Video on 12th august 2021 that means today. Audiences can now stream the film
entire weekend of the independent’s day. It surly be an advantage for this
film.
Trade analystTaran Adarsh opined that, “I liked what I had seen of Sidharth Malhotra in the
trailer of Shershaah. The trailer did impress me a great deal. I genuinely feel
that this could be the turning point of his career.” He also added, “If he
portrays the character right and if the director handles the subject very well,
then I think we might see a completely new Sidharth Malhotra.”
